CC Metall AB produces drawings and technical documentation for metalwork and wrought-iron details in older buildings and culturally or historically sensitive environments.

Drawings adapted to the character of the building

In cultural heritage projects, both function and appearance must be considered.

Proportions, profiles, materials, fixings, joints and surface treatments need to be adapted to the existing building.

The aim may be to recreate a historic detail or develop a new solution that functions technically without disrupting the architectural character of the building.

From photograph to drawing

The source material may include:

  • historic and recent photographs

  • archive drawings

  • hand-drawn sketches

  • heritage conservation reports

  • existing components or fragments

  • measured surveys

  • comparable details elsewhere in the building

  • instructions from an architect or building conservation specialist

We use this material to interpret the form, proportions, materials and construction of the detail.

When information is missing, important assumptions are clearly documented so that they can be reviewed before the drawings are completed.

What can be included in the delivery?

Depending on the project, the delivery may include:

  • measured survey drawings

  • general arrangement drawings

  • dimensioned detail drawings

  • plan, elevation and section views

  • profiles and cross-sections

  • manufacturing drawings

  • installation documentation

  • material and fixing specifications

  • parts lists or material lists

Common file formats include PDF, DWG, DXF and STEP.

The quotation specifies which drawings, file formats and revisions are included.

Drawings adapted for practical use

CC Metall AB combines CAD and technical drawing expertise with practical experience in metalwork, welding, construction, manufacturing and installation.

We therefore consider how the detail will be:

  • manufactured

  • joined

  • surface-treated

  • transported

  • fixed to the building

  • installed and, when necessary, removed

When required, the documentation can be coordinated with a building conservation specialist, architect, structural engineer, conservator, metalworker or another qualified professional.

How the process works

  1. You send us photographs, drawings, measurements and a description of the project.

  2. We review the material and identify any information that needs to be added.

  3. You receive a quotation specifying the scope, price and delivery time.

  4. A drawing proposal is prepared and sent for review.

  5. Once approved, the documentation is completed for quotation, manufacturing or installation.

What information do we need?

For an initial assessment, it is helpful if you send:

  • a brief project description

  • the name and location of the building

  • photographs

  • historic drawings or archive material

  • the main dimensions

  • information about materials and surface treatments

  • a heritage conservation statement, if available

  • information about what is to be preserved or recreated

  • the requested delivery date

It is not a problem if the information is incomplete. After reviewing the material, we can explain what additional information is required.

What is not automatically included?

The following services are included only when explicitly stated in the quotation:

  • permit applications and contact with authorities

  • structural calculations

  • material and paint investigations

  • on-site measurements and travel

  • prototype manufacturing

  • manufacturing, surface treatment and installation

  • external specialist costs

Projects involving protected buildings

Alterations to churches, listed buildings and other protected buildings may require special permission and a heritage conservation review.

The client is responsible for providing information about the building’s protected status and identifying the authorities or specialists involved.

The drawings may need to be reviewed and approved before manufacturing or installation begins.

Frequently asked questions

Can you recreate a detail from an old photograph?

Yes. A drawing proposal can often be produced using photographs, reference dimensions and comparable details. The level of accuracy depends on the quality of the available material.

Do you prepare heritage conservation statements?

No, not automatically. Heritage assessments are normally carried out by a building conservation specialist. We prepare drawings based on the approved conservation approach.

Can you produce manufacturing drawings for wrought-iron details?

Yes. Once the design has been approved, we can prepare drawings for quotations, workshops, manufacturing and installation.

Can the work be carried out remotely?

Yes. Many projects can be completed using photographs, measurements, archive material and existing drawings.
