What is a fabrication drawing?
A fabrication drawing shows how a product, component or structure is to be manufactured, assembled and installed.

The manufacturer or machine operator is responsible for checking the files against the relevant machine, software, material thickness, tolerances and processing method before production begins.

How the process works
1. You send us the documentation
Send sketches, photographs, measurements, existing drawings and a brief description of what is to be manufactured.
2. We review the project
We assess which drawings and files are required and whether the documentation needs to be supplemented.
3. You receive a quotation
The quotation specifies:

which drawings will be produced
-
the level of detail included
-
which file formats will be delivered
-
whether parts, material or cutting lists are included
-
the number of revisions
-
the estimated delivery time
-
the limitations of the assignment

any need for a structural engineer or another specialist
4. The drawings are produced
We develop the fabrication documentation and clarify important questions concerning dimensions, materials, connections, function and installation.
5. The client reviews the documentation
The client checks the dimensions, materials, design and other information before approving the drawings.
Manufacturing should not begin until the documentation has been reviewed by the client and, when required, the responsible structural engineer or manufacturer.
6. The final files are delivered
Following the agreed review and revision process, the drawings are delivered in the file formats specified in the quotation.
The difference between a fabrication drawing and a structural drawing
A fabrication drawing shows how a product or component is to be cut, machined, assembled and installed.
A structural drawing shows the principles, dimensions and technical requirements of the load-bearing structure.
Structural calculations are used to verify matters including:

Structural calculations and formal structural design are not automatically included in an order for fabrication drawings.
When the product is load-bearing, safety-critical or subject to specific requirements, a structural engineer may need to design and verify the solution. The quotation will specify who is responsible for the drawings, calculations, verification and any required approval or sign-off.
